Spend time with your favorite people and earn Summit funds by hosting a friendly board game competition. Invite your friends and family over for a night full of food, fun and games!

INVITING YOUR COMPETITORS

With the help of your parents, decide on an evening when you can transform your living room or dining room into a game play space. Once you’ve picked a date, create an invite list and call everyone to spread the word. Let them know this will be the best evening of board games they’ve ever experienced and that all the proceeds go to a good cause.

Be sure to tell your competitors about the entry fees. We suggest $7 for competitors and $5 for observers. Don’t forget to include the reason for this board game night – your upcoming Summit! Give your prospective competitors a quick description of why you are raising money and how you will use their contributions.

Let them know you will be providing dinner (like pizza or lasagna and a salad), and all they need to bring is something to drink and their favorite board game.

Encourage your guests to bring games that take less than an hour to play. Give some examples of games they can contribute: Battleship, Candy Land, Guess Who, Sorry, Trouble, Scrabble, Checkers, Chess, Parcheesi, Chutes and Ladders.

GETTING READY FOR GAME NIGHT

Have your family help you arrange furniture or set up some extra tables and chairs for your guests. Make a run to your local pizza shop or grocery store to grab enough food for everyone who will be attending. If you live somewhere with warm evenings, consider hosting the event on your deck or in your backyard. Be prepared with tables, chairs, background music and good lighting.

Remember, people will be paying an entrance fee. Set up a small table to display information on your summit and a jar for the entry fees. This will also allow guests to make additional donations. We’ve included the sponsorship flyer to print and have on hand for people to read.

COMPETITION NIGHT

As your guests arrive, welcome them into your home and show them where they can drop their entrance fees. Invite them to find a place to set up their board game and grab a bite to eat. If your guests are not already acquainted, be sure to make introductions so people begin to mingle.

Once everyone has arrived and set up their games, it’s your duty as a host to welcome everyone to your event and explain how the competition will work. Instruct people to find a board game to play with someone they didn’t arrive with. Turn on some music and enjoy an evening of friendly competition!

After about 45 minutes, have people rotate and try their hand at a different game. We recommend facilitating at least three rounds of game play. Be sure that you also participate in some rounds too! This is a good time to chat with each person attending and thank them for supporting you on your way to your Summit.
