What separates a good leader from a great one.
Welcome back! This is part 2 of a 6-Lesson series that Ambassador Leaders take part in as they work on their Community Action Plans during the Summit. Earlier we shared how Ambassador Leaders and Lead2Feed have partnered to help local communities. Through the Lead2Feed project challenge students build leadership, teamwork and collaborative service skills while addressing critical needs in their communities.
In Lesson 1, we learned that, in order to effectively lead others, you must first understand yourself - your past, your present self, and your BIG dreams for the future.
In Lesson 2, we will learn why it's important to BE A TEAM OF AVID LEARNERS.
Through this lesson, you will:
Understand the importance of building trust among team members to achieve success as a team.
Develop a brand for your team (name, logo/mascot, and slogan) to communicate your team identity.
Collaborate with team members to research the issue you have chosen for your service project and build know-how about that need.
It can be tempting (and sometimes easier) to do everything yourself, but to achieve BIG goals as a leader, it's important to bring others along with you. Nobody achieves success alone! You will be surprised at what you can accomplish when you put your faith in other people. But first, you must build trust.
When you have a team around you that's as passionate about an issue as you are, you need to show it! Every effective team has a unique team identity. It's an opportunity for all members to combine their individual talents and abilities into a strong cohesive team. You'll learn how to create a team identity, or brand, and effectively communicate who you are as a team.
One of the most important things you can do to grow as a leader is to always be learning. In fact, being an avid learner is the single biggest thing that separates a good leader from a great one. Using this principle, you'll research your chosen service issue. You and your team members will grow beyond your own knowledge to gain understanding about the true need in your community and how to Lead and Feed that Need!
Hear from David Novak, Chairman and CEO of Yum! Brands, and author of the best-selling book Taking People With You, why it's so important to be a team of avid learners.
We look forward to sharing a sneak peek into each lesson to show you how this program changes teens and gives them a roadmap for effective service and personal growth. Follow along with us!
