#FundFriday: Video Game Tournament

Host a video game competition for Summit funds!

#fundfridayvideogame.jpg

Winter Break is coming up and that means time off from school, colder weather and get-togethers with friends and family.

That’s the perfect recipe for your next fundraiser! Choose your favorite video game or games, pick a date to invite people over and challenge the gamers in your life to a friendly competition. Provide some snacks and a gift card for the ultimate winner. Put the remaining funds you raise toward your Summit tuition. That’s a win-win!

Advertising the Challenge

Create a flyer to pass out and post online to your social media. Include the following information.

  • Why you’re planning the competition—to fundraise for your Summit!

  • The competition’s date - If this event is popular with your friends, plan more than one!

  • The competition’s featured video game(s)

  • The buy-in donation amount - We suggest $5-10 so you can buy snacks and a gift card prize and still have plenty leftover for your Summit funds.

  • The Ultimate Winner Award - We suggest a $20-40 (2-4x the buy-in donation amount) gift card to a local video game store.

  • The RSVP date

  • The food and drinks you’ll provide

We created a template to get you started. Click the button below, print and customize with your competition’s information!

Getting Ready for Game Day

Visit your local game store to pick up the Ultimate Winner’s gift card. While you’re out, swing by a Little Caesar’s to grab $5 pizzas or make a stop at your local grocery story for some finger foods and sodas. Remember to be economical with your snack and drink choices as these purchases will be subtracted from the total funds you raise.

Grab extra pillows from around the house and camping chairs from the garage and get your game system set to go. Choose the video game or games people will play and decide on a structure for your competition. There are many ways to organize a video game tournament, and if you’re not sure what to do, check out this video.

When all is said and done, follow up by thanking the tournament participants. After you come home from the Summit, let people know about your experience. And who knows? You may convince your friends to join you for the next year’s Summits.
